The Power Of Referrals

What would be better than being fully booked with regular, repeat clients? If that’s even possible, how could one achieve it?

First you would have to be good, very good. With the proper training, passion and the right mental attitude everything is achievable.

Something I learned many years ago, success in hair and beauty is an equal combination of creative skills, understanding of science and hospitality.

Creativity to give your clients the best hair and skin they can have

Confidently recommend scientifically ‘prescription’ based products for your clients

Create a 5-star environment to 5-star hotel in which to spoil your clients

Clients experiencing this kind of service are very unlikely to leave you. In fact, they are more likely to be become raving fans. This is what you want.

And why wouldn’t these clients refer their friends and colleagues to you? Maybe all you have to do is ask.

What’s in it for me? In line with consumer values, it’s only natural that your clients want recognition and maybe rewarded for their precious referral.

Unfortunately, this is where 20 people will come up with 20 different ideas when, the best idea is normally the simplest (Ochram’s Razor – a law that says that, after searching many solutions for an answer, the first and simplest solution proves to be the best).

And that answer is A LOYALTY PROGRAMME.

A loyalty programme needs to be dynamic and versatile and not too difficult for clients and staff to understand. We will cover Loyalty Programmes in depth is a future blog. In a nutshell, A client, on your loyalty programme refers a clients, she will be rewarded. If your business model focuses offering 5-star services, then recognising and rewarding loyal clients, you will be rewarded with referred business.

Buy-in from your staff.  Needless to say this business approach will not work without buy-in from your staff.

There is no doubt how crucial referrals are in achieving your goals of growing your business and to replace clients who, you lose clients through circumstances beyond your control other than bad service. All business do. The best way to keep staff focused on earning referrals is by including it as one of their target setting criteria. Staff of often just set monetary targets whereas, focusing the target on things such as increasing the number of colour business they do, or, increasing their retail sales, or increasing their average docket value or, increasing the number of referrals they get will each contribute in achieving their turnover goals.
